Threat of chemical weapons in Syria conflict and its impact on Balkan region along with the health and laboratory management system

Professor Doctor Levent Kenar has been working for twenty years in the Department of Medical CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) Defence of Gülhane Military Medical Academy and University of Health Sciences, Ankara, Turkey and he is currently the Chief of the Department as Professor of Medical CBRN and Biochemistry in this department. He is leading all the issues held in the department including making scientific studies, giving lectures about the medical aspects of CBRN weapons to medical and nonmedical staff, performing analysis regarding the analysis and R&D of agents. From the aspect of CBRN Defense and as the academic staff in the university, research and education are his main duties and a great amount of time is spent on training and research, Publication of articles in conferences, journals, and books is also essential in his professional job. From the research perspective; he has been performing CBRN medical research to develop new approaches and techniques to assist with problems that may be encountered in the CBRN environment and management of CBRN casualities.

He worked as doctoral student in the doctorate program about medical aspect of CBRN agents betwen 1997-2002. Since he was also leading the medical CBRN medical response team established under the authority of Medical Academy, he has tasked in prompt and effective response to incidents and supervised the staff in the team including physicians, nurses and paramedics.

From the medical aspect of CBRN defense, he has also tasked in various international organisations and has represented Turkey in CBRN-NATO related groups like CBRN Medical Working Group, CBRN Defense Working Group, OPCW meetings, NBC Initiatives in NATO Assessment Team. He was also certified as the inspector of UNMOVIC organized by the United Nations. He has currently 52 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed international journals indexed in SCI and SCI-E and about 80 presentations in international scientific meetings.
