Dr Milena Velizarova (Ph.D., EuSpLM) is an associate professor at the Dept. of Clinical Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Medical University, Sofia, Bulgaria. She obtained her Ph.D. degree from Medical University –Sofia in Dpt of Clinical laboratory. Her dissertation work presents the frequency and the type of molecular-cytogenetic aberrations in acute leukemia in adults and their prognostic significance for the disease remission and outcome. She is a principal investigator of many research projects. Her scientific interests are focused on new technologies and their applications in clinical hematology and molecular genetics. Dr. Velizarova is the author of 45 peer reviewed manuscripts, 2 book chapters and takes part in over 50 scientific congresses, conferences and symposia.
Dr. Milena Velizarova is a recognized specialist in the field of laboratory haematology at the Clinical Laboratory and Clinical Pharmacology unit of Alexander University Hospital, Sofia. Teaching Clinical Laboratory Medicine to medical and non-medical students, residents, and fellows has been a primary activity in Dr Velizarova’s career. Dr Velizarova is a member of the examination board of certification for clinical laboratory specialists.
Dr Milena Velizarova is a secretary of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Society of Clinical Laboratory and a member of the European Register of Specialists in Laboratory Medicine (EC4 / EFLM). She serves as the Chief Coordinator of the Clinical Laboratory Expert Board of the Bulgarian Ministry of Health.
