Developing a roadmap for laboratory test utilization management program
Sedef Yenice is Professor of Biochemistry and Clinical Laboratory Medicine, and Faculty Member of the Demiroğlu Bilim University. She serves as Head of the Core Clinical Laboratory Services and Associate Director of Tissue Typing Laboratory at the Gayrettepe Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul, Turkey. Professor Yenice undertook specialist training in Clinical Biochemistry at the Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Medicine, and Institute of Health Sciences, Izmir, Turkey, and doctoral research training on cellular and molecular biochemistry at the VA Medical Center, University of Minnesota (MN, USA) in the area of androgenic regulation of protein kinases in prostatic cell growth, then post-doctoral research training at the Department of Surgery, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, UK, where she studied as a fellow on a research scholarship of European Urological Scholarship Foundation. She also trained at Executive Management in Mendoza College of Business, the University of Notre Dame (IN, USA). She served as a founder and head of the Department of Biochemistry and taught courses in clinical and molecular biochemistry and laboratory management at a number of universities for more than thirty years. Her scientific work has been recognized through many national and international awards. She received the Eczacıbaşı Award for Excellence in Medical Research and Pfizer International Pre-Clinical BPH Research Grant Award. She is the author of more than 100 publications in refereed national and international journals. She held management positions in the hospital with regard to clinical laboratory accreditation and quality system management since 1999. She serves as chair of International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC), Committee on Clinical Laboratory Management (C-CLM) since 2014. Her research and teaching related to the clinical laboratory management revolve around the establishment of a quality management system, Point-of-Care quality assurance management, hospital and laboratory accreditation, medical test utilization, quality improvement techniques, error management and patient safety concerns, and leadership development. She taught courses primarily in strategic management, organizational culture and change management, effective leadership development and team management, building effective and supportive supervision for quality improvement. Professor Yenice along with the IFCC C-CLM members, currently engaged in conducting international workshops on “Clinical Laboratory Leadership Training Certificate Program” and authored the monograph, Leadership Basics for Clinical Laboratory Professionals.
